The Church as God’s Family (1 Timothy 3:14-15, 1 Timothy 5:1-2)

Gary Kirst, November 11, 2018
Part of the Genius of Gender, God's good gift of the sexes series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

If God is our Father through faith in Christ, that makes us all true brothers and sisters (Gal 3:26) – part of one global family, but also as we gather and covenant with one another locally, part of a local church family. And just as there are gender-based roles in the home, there are gender-based roles in the church.

1 Timothy 3:14-15

14These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: 15But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. (KJV)

1 Timothy 5:1-2

1Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; 2The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity. (KJV)
